This painting is a conceptual art piece made with mixed acrylic, oil, and metal. As described in Mr. Cuevas’s biography, his goal is to preserve the legacy of the Taino Indians. In this striking work of art, we, at Islands Arts, strongly believe that this is a painting of The Taino goddess Atabey. Atabey is the supreme goddess of the Taínos. She was worshipped as a goddess of fresh water and fertility and the female entity who represents the Earth Spirit and the Spirit of all horizontal water, lakes, streams, the sea, and the marine tides.
