Mama Tingo

In this mixed medium, original painting by Caribbean Artist, Kelvin M. Capellan, the legendary Mama Tingo is memorialized. Mr. Capellan uses a red background with shapes of multiple birds.  Mama Tingo is a dark woman full of determination. Mama Tingo was a Dominican activist leader, defending a rural farming community in her homeland. She was slain on her farm in 1974 by being shot twice, once in the chest, and the other in the head. In this painting you can see the bullet explode that caused her final breath.
