Yours – Mine

Dominican Artist, Genaro Coste Félix, painted this original, oil on canvas mainly in greyscale, yet there are miniscule patches of light blue color. The man in this scene is thinking deeply. There is a community deep in the background above the scene. He has an apparatus attached to a balancing beam on his right shoulder.  In his mind, he is standing at the top of this apparatus holding the moon in its crescent phase, a symbol of power. Horizontally across the canvas and connecting with the man holding the moon is the figure of a long-haired woman, the lady of his dreams, encircled by a round luminescent shape, sitting on the other end of this balancing beam. The woman has a string of light-colored hearts that cascade down to the daydreamer. The hearts grow bigger as they reach the man’s drawing pad. He is shading in one of the hearts. There is a set of circles intertwined around the man’s drawing pad, and large hearts. The symbolism here indicates that two people can be so different but still connected forever.
