In the distant past, close to 100 years ago, people who lived in the countryside worked hard to churn butter for their families. This oil on lanilla (flannel), by Dominican artist, Eddy Casado reflects on a time such as this. The elderly woman, dressed in a lavender shirt with a yellow skirt, sits on the porch, in her hardback wooden chair, with an old, dark brown, wooden churn. Her backdrop is of the side of the house which is green and has a red framed window. The characteristics of the lanilla is perfect for this type of painting; it appears to validate the history of this old-fashioned moment.
